Speaking-Based Foreign Language Education

As Ilim and Fazilet Foundation Educational Institutions – Private Pendik Ikbal College, our primary goal in foreign language education is to ensure effective and lifelong language acquisition by taking into account students’ individual differences and supporting them with our qualified and experienced teaching staff. A process-oriented and spiral foreign language teaching model is adopted at all educational levels, from kindergarten to high school. This model aims to transform language learning into a life skill while reinforcing students' prior achievements and enabling progressive development.

Language Acquisition at Kindergarten Level

At the kindergarten level, our students acquire basic daily speaking skills through immersive and age-appropriate learning environments enriched with visual and auditory materials, supported by online platforms and guided by native teachers. The content used focuses on listening and speaking skills. At the end of the preschool education phase, students demonstrate their foundational language competencies through “I-Station” presentations conducted with their native teachers.

Bilingual and Activity-Based Education in Primary School

In primary school, our speaking-based foreign language instruction is further reinforced with grammar fundamentals. Starting from the 2nd grade, students actively participate in English lessons supported by native teachers, and Spanish is introduced as a second foreign language. Language education is enriched with content-based materials, online libraries, and interactive activities such as “Job’s Day,” “Spelling Bee,” “Book Cover Contest,” “Spring Fest,” and “Children’s Day,” encouraging students to use the language in social contexts. Students’ progress is monitored through international proficiency exams such as PQS Tablet and PQS Speaking, aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Intensive Programs and Social Learning in Middle School

In middle school, the 5th grade curriculum includes an "Intensive English Program," which targets balanced development across the four core language skills: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing. Native instructors, content-based learning materials, and online platforms support this process. Through activities like “Spelling Bee,” “Scrabble Tournaments,” “Language Camps,” and the “Funday Program,” students experience the language in real-life and social contexts. Language development is evaluated with PQS international proficiency tests, and students are guided according to CEFR levels.

Advanced Level and Global Preparation in High School

At the high school level, an intensive English program is implemented in the 9th and 10th grades, with Main Course and Skills classes conducted by native instructors. Spanish continues as a second foreign language. Students develop their language skills through activities such as “Scrabble Tournaments,” “Quiz Shows,” and project presentations, which help transform their language abilities into real-life competencies. In addition to academic development, students grow culturally through international summer school programs, gaining the opportunity to explore different cultures and practice language in authentic contexts. These experiences prepare them as global citizens for university life and international career goals. Language progress is consistently tracked through PQS Tablet and Speaking assessments, ensuring students reach CEFR proficiency levels.

Theoretical Foundations and Contemporary Educational Approach

The speaking-based and process-oriented language education model at Ikbal College is built upon contemporary approaches aligned with Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) principles, Constructivist Learning Theories, and Multiple Intelligences Theory. The educational process extends beyond the classroom to include social, cultural, and digital domains, focusing on each student’s individual development.
